B-o-r-i-n-g

We are so boring lately. We haven't even done anything exciting to share. Basically, we get up, go to work, get home, play, eat, play, bathe, pj up, read books, go to bed, repeat Tuesday through Friday. We're boring! We're so boring that Megan ran away from home tonight to spend the night elsewhere. But, we have exciting plans for July and school starts in August, so the blog should be livening up say...this weekend!

For those who have asked, and I appreciate it, my new job is going fan-freakin-tastic. Somehow I got roped into supervising a project (surprise, surprise) and it's coming along extremely well. But at the same time, it's wearing me out. Oh, that and teaching summer school. And being a mom. And training for a race. And yeah everything else. Looking forward to a break from at least something on the list - except for being a mom. That part is the best.

Holes in Our Heads

Megan and I had a "no-boys-allowed" day this weekend. It started with pedicures, followed by "Chinese chicken" at Panda Express (Meg's favorite), followed by a clothes shopping trip, and then ended with *drum roll* getting our ears pierced! Yes, you read correctly...we got our ears pierced.

It all started a few months ago. I got a hankering to get my ears repierced since I let them close up a long time ago. I merely mentioned it to Megan, and she freaked out. She wanted earrings like other girls, but she didn't want it to hurt. Understood. I explained that we could go together, hold hands, etc. She didn't go for it. Fast forward to our girls' day. We were on our way home when Megan up and announced, "I'm ready...I want to get my ears pierced. Let's do it, Mom." I asked her some very specific questions, such as "ARE YOU SURE?" and "ARE YOU SURE?", etc. She said she was, so off we went.

Megan decided to go first. She picked - surprise, surprise - the aquamarine flowers.

Right before the first ear stick:

Okay, now I have to tell you that I realllllly had a hard time keeping a straight face. The lady pierced the first ear, and Megan FLIPPED OUT. She started screaming and crying and then declared, "I ONLY WANT ONE DONE!" She covered her other ear and refused to let the lady near her. It was only after 10 minutes of holding and soothing that the lady snuck up and pierced the 2nd ear. She didn't even flinch when she pierced the 2nd ear. So may I present Megan's new holes in her head.

She was a trooper! And then she was very helpful when it was my turn. "Don't worry, Mom," she said. It was the perfect end to a perfect day.

Family Reunion

We went to the annual family gathering at Pappadeux. Every year it seems like the group changes, yet stays the same. I didn't have my camera out very much today because well, Connor's the age where I do more chasing than socializing. We have to eat in shifts to try to keep up with him.

"Cheese!" with chocolate ice cream on his face.

Big Boy "C"

I'm not sure it would even help, but could someone please explain to Connor that he is still a little boy? He wants to grow up SO fast and do big kid stuff already. He just can't stand being little.

For example, he loves to color. He sees the crayons, and he goes nuts until he gets a coloring book and crayons. He's the same way about sidewalk chalk.

And here he is giving me "cheese".

He went for his 15 month check-up. He's a healthy, growing little weed. He is 30th percentile in weight and 60th in height - tall and skinny. He is talking, walking up and down a step, playing, eating with a fork, ornery, brushing his own teeth, etc. Those are just a few of his skills. Our favorite lately is he pulls up his shirt and says, "BELLY!" until someone laughs. He thinks that's great.

Will Sell Soul to Get to Seattle

This is my new niece, Amaya June. I haven't met her yet, but I am already in love. Well, we are already in love. Megan talks about her all the time, as if she's here with us, or is old enough to interact with us. She keeps asking to talk to Amaya on the phone.

Anyway, she was born on Memorial Day. She is just beautiful, as you can see, and we are just so absolutely happy that she is here.

And I am moved, beyond words, at the love I hear in my brother and sister-in-law's voices as they talk about their new baby. Love for each other, love for Amaya, and love for family. It's heartwarming to watch siblings grow up and join the ranks!

Can't wait to get my hands, and my camera, on her. Oh, and to see Jeff and Lisa, too.
